What's exciting about Tableau 8.1?

  •             Any Data, Anytime – Connect and transform your data faster than ever before.

  •           Bigger and Faster Data for the Enterprise – Tableau’s enterprise deployment is now running on 64-bit and includes SAML authentication, IPv6 support and more.
  •           Data Never Looked so Good – Building beautiful dashboards is easier than ever with new quick filter customizations.
  •           Sophisticated Analytics – Now every business user can leverage powerful statistical functions like boxplots and confidence bands with one click.
  •           Author on the Fly – Web and mobile interactivity make authoring on the go fast and easy.
R Integration

R is a popular open-source environment for statistical analysis. Tableau Desktop can now connect to R through calculated fields and take advantage of R functions, libraries, and packages and even saved models. These calculations dynamically invoke the R engine and pass values to R via the Rserve package, and are returned back to Tableau.

Tableau Server can also be configured to connect to an instance of Rserve through the tabadmin utility, allowing anyone to view a dashboard containing R functionality.
Combining R with Tableau gives you the ability to bring deep statistical analysis into a drag-and-drop visual analytics environment.

SAML Authentication

Tableau Server can now be configured to delegate authentication to SAML, an open-source authentication method that acts as a single sign-on system so people within an enterprise can use the same sign-in credentials across multiple programs. You can use SAML on top of local authentication or Windows Active Directory.

When SAML is configured and you have already signed in to your business environment via SAML, you will not see a separate sign-in screen for Tableau Server.
This allows you to deeply integrate Tableau Server into your core business alongside other internal applications for a fluid business experience.

IPv6 Support

Tableau products can now communicate over the IPv6 protocol. All Tableau products can use IPv6 networks, including IPv6/IPv4 dual-stack networks.

IPv6 is the latest revision of Internet Protocol (IP) which supports 128-bit addresses and has a number of benefits that Tableau also inherits, including more efficient data routing, simpler network configuration and greater security through IPsec.

Automatic Gateway Failover

You can now run multiple gateways in your Tableau Server cluster and front them with a load balancer.
If one gateway becomes inactive, the load balancer automatically distributes traffic across the active gateways. This makes your deployment of Tableau Server resilient against system failures and eliminates single-machine risk.
