What is secure browsing?

It only takes a small bit of effort, a few tools, and some basic information to be safe as you browse the Internet. Follow these guiding principles to protect your personal information and your computer online.

 The Risks:

1.        Viruses and spyware (collectively known as malware).
2.        Phishing, designed to obtain your personal and/or financial information and possibly steal your identity.
3.        Fraud, from fake shopping, banking, charity, dating, social networking, gaming, gambling and other websites.

Examples of Phishing E-mails:
Security Update
Mandatory Net Banking Security Update
Alerts!!! Upgrade and Secure Your Online Account Immediately

Example: Below online banking websites look like same but one is fake website!

Education – Educate yourself about the types of scams on the Internet so that you are better equipped to defeat them. Read up on the latest phishing scams, for example, and learn how to recognize them.
Use common sense and caution; never post personal information online; and be careful about clicking on links or prompts to download software.
When you install free and unwanted software, your browser might look like this :)

Use a firewall – Firewalls monitor traffic between your computer or network and the Internet and are your first and best line of defense. Most operating systems come with a firewall, but it won't help you if you don't activate it.

Safe shopping – Shopping online can be a terrific tool for consumers. While on the checkout page, look for the lock symbol or some other indication, such as the prefix "https" to make sure that the page is encrypted or scrambled.

Strong passwords – While short, simple passwords may be easier to remember, they're also easier for hackers to crack.

How to set strong passwords?
1. Think of a phrase.
For example, I love axiom semantics for training
2. Replace the word ‘for’ with number 4
I love axiom semantics 4 training.
3. Use the first letter for each word
Ilas4t
4. Add special characters
$Ilas4t@
5. Further customization can be done by adding custom website specific keywords.
$Ilas4t@Fbk for Facebook
$Ilas4t@Yho for
Yahoo
$Ilas4t@Goe for
Google
Enjoy your password!

Add one of the below plug-ins to all your browsers:
1.       Safe Search adviser like (WOT, AGV site adviser, mcAffe site adviser ect..)

Firefox >tools >Add-on > Get Add-ons
Chrome > https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en-US
2. Block all ads (ad block, ad block plus, YouTube ad block, etc...)

Firefox >tools >Add-on > Get Add-ons
Chrome > https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en-US
Use regularly updated security software – Use security software that updates automatically and often to provide maximum protection from viruses, spyware and other cyber threats

 Enjoy your browsing ….. Securely!
